Our series of scintillating conversations between San Diego/Tijuana area choral conductors continues with the dynamic duo of Aaron Burgett (Solana Beach Presbyterian Church) and Dr. Yewon Lee (San Diego Festival Chorus and Orchestra). Aaron Burgett—an active director, composer, and performer—received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from PLNU, his Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from SDSU, and now enjoys teaching and performing in a variety of styles. He has taught at schools and churches throughout San Diego County, working with students anywhere from the age of five to eighty-five. Currently, Aaron is the Director of Choral Worship at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church, as well as an active member of Sacra/Profana, a local professional choir. When not making music, Aaron can be found filming weddings with his wife (Madeleine), hanging out with his dog and cat, or going on outdoor adventures. 

A resident of San Diego, with wide ranging experiences throughout Southern California, Dr. Yewon Lee is a much sought after emerging conductor and collaborative pianist on the operatic and concert stage. Prior to relocating to San Diego, Dr. Lee was an Assistant Music Director of Opera at Baldwin Wallace University and Adjunct Professor at Kent State University. In the operatic world, Dr. Lee coached Don Giovanni at Baldwin Wallace Opera Theater, Cosí fan Tutte and Magic Flute at the National Opera Center in New York City, Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Aspen Opera Theater Center and The Impresario at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Israel. She has been a member of the music staff at the International Vocal Arts Institute in France, Israel, Italy and Japan. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Lee received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Seoul National University, completed her Master of Music degree in Vocal Accompanying at Manhattan School of Music and earned an Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano from the Juilliard School. She recently finished her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Music at the University of Southern California under the tutelage of Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe. Currently, she is a music director of the San Diego Festival Chorus and serves as a Far South Representative for California Choral Directors Association.
