The historic Vista Hills Chorus has made its home in North San Diego County for more than 65 years. You may have heard us sing the National Anthem at the Del Mar Fair (pardon us, San Diego County Fair) or heard us caroling around the Antique Gas & Steam Engine in Vista. You may have family or friends that sing with our parent organization, Sweet Adelines International.
But have you actually met us? If you've never come to a rehearsal or performance, consider this your custom and engraved invitation to do just that: Come see what the Vista Hills Chorus is all about! We rehearse on Tuesday nights from 6:45pm to 9:30pm.
This multi-award-winning chorus takes great pride in its fun-loving and enthusiastic personality. Placing as high as 2nd in regional competition, 2nd in double quartet contest, and recipient of the 2025 Most Improved Chorus Award, the Vista Hills Chorus loves to entertain and educate. We meet weekly to practice, socialize, perform, and sing a Cappella harmony, barbershop style - all voice, all the time!
Our Artistic Director, Melanie Jewell, leads the chorus every week, and in her very first year, taught us enough to earn us a 101 point increase in score - a feat otherwise unheard of in our region. Says she (and one of her own chorus directors): "Barbershop takes five minutes to learn and a lifetime to master."
And it truly does - you can learn the musical style in a matter of minutes, but mastering the technique and ringing those elusive overtones every time takes a lifetime.
There's nothing like knowing you've put in the work to improve, and we are all about it. We continue to work hard as we navigate the 2026/2027 season, and look forward to competing in Phoenix, AZ, in April of next year!
